Selling Your Items

Our stock comes from three main sources – donations, purchased items and the FairShare scheme.

We rely heavily on generous donations from our customers and the public. Please bring us, during opening hours, quality items in any of the categories covered by this site, including: paintings, hardback books, vintage and branded clothing, jewellery, china and glass, ornaments, small items of furniture, collectibles and seasonal specialities (such as for Christmas). However, please do not bring us bedding or electrical items.

We aim to sell as many as possible of the donated items in the shop. Where this is not possible we aim to make sure that the Gap Project still benefits through sales at boot fairs. As a last resort we will donate left-over items to other charities who may be able to sell them in their shops.

Purchased Items

We aim to source some of our stock from boot fairs and selected auctions. Another principal source will be house clearances where people can either sell us certain items or make donations.

House clearances can be arranged. Tell us if you need help in downsizing or clearing a family home. We will work with others to remove items and advise you on how to get the best value/price. You can also help us by telling friends and/or family about us and our service, or giving us details of other people who may be looking for support.

Fair Share Scheme

Our FairShare Scheme is explained below. Please ask our Shop Manager for an agreement form.

FairShare selling is a way of you selling treasured items through Gap in the Market, and sharing in the proceeds.

Are you downsizing, clearing a home or just running out of space at home? You will probably find that you have treasured items that you don’t want to just give away. Maybe you don’t want to go to the trouble of setting up an on-line selling account.

Gap in the Market can help you to sell your items. This is how FairShare works:

  • Bring your item into the shop. We will discuss whether we think we can sell the item and a possible price.
  • You sign up to our FairShare agreement (see below).
  • We will display your item at the agreed price for up to 6 weeks.
  • If the items is sold we will share the price on a 50:50 basis.
  • If the item has not been sold after 6 weeks, we will offer to display it at a reduced price for up to a further 2 weeks.
  • If the item has not been sold after a total of 8 weeks we will contact you. You will then have the option to withdraw the item for sale, and collect it within one week, or to donate it to the Gap in the Market shop.
